5 Fun & FREE Spring Break Ideas in Round Rock

Spring Break for kiddos is next week ~ March 11-15 ~ What’s on your calendar?  Are you staying in town?  Other than the ten great camps and activities going on here that week, here are 5 AWESOME and FREE ideas to do with the family here in the Rock!

5 Fun & FREE Spring Break Ideas in Round Rock:

Picnic at the Play for All Abilities Park ~ Round Rock has tons of amazing parks to play at this spring.  If you have little ones, this park is for you! Play in a miniature Round Rock, spin on a modern merry-go-round, or rock on the Sway boat, the Play for All Abilities Park has the most unique play equipment in all of Central Texas.  Go early in the morning, before it gets too crowded and hot.  Take a picnic lunch for afterwards or zip on over to the Old Settlers Park for another great picnic site (it’s right down the road!).

Tour Historic Downtown Round Rock ~ Start with a visit to the Palm House Museum in downtown Round Rock, where you can pick up a walking tour brochure or print it from here.  Find out what all those buildings in Downtown originally were and then find the oldest building in Round Rock (1870). You can even visit the Round Rock Cemetery and visit a few historical figure’s graves.

Geocaching ~ One of my kids FAVORITE past times is geocaching.  A modern day treasure hunt using a GPS device (or a simple app on your phone) and a bit of intuition, you will stay busy for hours.  There are some great ones here in Round Rock (quite a few actually).  We have written a whole tutorial to teach you all about it here.  Have fun!

Bike Ride on Brushy Creek Trail ~ When we first moved here, we discovered what was to become our favorite bike path in Round Rock – the Brushy Creek Trail. We love to start at the Duck Pond,  meander down the path, stopping to did at the Dino Park or dip our toes in the creek before the big climb to the dam.  If you are looking for a longer ride, head all the way under Parmar and check out the railroad bridge that was used to haul granite from the Hill Country to build the Capitol.  There’s history every where you turn…..

Get acquainted with the Round Rock Public Library ~ I’m pretty surprised at how many people I run across that don’t know all the great resources we have at our public library.  Besides the excellent collections, the library has fantastic children’s programming for all ages.  The week of Spring Break, they are offering classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and even some fun for the elementary ones (LEGO fun & a movie!).  The Library has a Teen Room & Clubs, Book clubs for Adults, classes, crafts, and more.  My favorite new find is the ability to access full digital magazines for free using my library card and Zinio.  We LOVE the Round Rock Public Library!!
