Joe McDermott has been described as a “Texas treasure” by the Texas Library Association. His performances are dynamic and highly entertaining for children as well as parents. His awards include the NAPPA Gold Award, several Parent’s Choice Awards, and the grand prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest for his song “Great Big World.” Joe has written songs for a Michael Eisner company and set 6 books to music for Stan and Jan Berenstain. He plays solo or with his five-piece band, and has scores for full orchestra. His music is in regular rotation on Sirius/XM Radio. Joe’s shows are highly interactive, combining age-appropriate movement, music, and storytelling. The performances can be geared for preschool, family concerts, school shows, and concerts with symphony orchestras. During his shows, his audience will be asked to ride a porcupine, have some alien ice cream, and learn what happens when a little brother brings a skunk home. Joe’s Montessori training allows him to easily help the audience transition from energy-filled movement songs to sit-down story songs.
