Before or after you take in the art inside of the Round Rock City Council Chambers Gallery\, proceed outside into Prete Plaza\, where Samantha Melvin’s seven-panel\, site-specific mural can be enjoyed. Artwork from the Round Rock City Council Chamber Gallery exhibit can be purchased by connecting directly with the artist. \nArtist Statement: Samantha Melvin \nThe Verdant Web investigates the interrelationship of humans and nature. Through the eloquent languages of painting and printmaking\, the works speak visually about the biophilic environments where built structures merge with the organic geographies of nature. Botanical shapes reference varieties of native species from Texas and from travels as a celebration of place\, while layered abstractions and patterns dance with one another\, forming varied outcomes of light and color\, reflecting nature’s ongoing\, and ever-adapting resilience. SUMMARY:Outside the Rock: 58th Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:The annual start of the Austin holiday season is led by the lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree on the moontower at Zilker Park. The Zilker Holiday Tree stands 155 feet tall and is composed of 39 streamers\, each holding 81 multicolored LED bulbs – totaling 3\,309 lights. At the top of the tree\, a double star measures 10 feet from point to point. The double star displays 150 frosted bulbs.
