Our history:
For the last 16 years the Urban Music Fest has been rooted mainly in music. This year we will expand the brand to include Afrocentric aspects of culture to help all to better understand how we arrived to our cultural existence.
Live music will continue to be a major part of the festival, but we will endeavor into other cultural markers such as ethnic dance, ethnic food, ethnic clothing, ethnic visual arts, spoken word in an effort to showcase Austin’s diverse Afro-centric culture.
There is a deep and wide diaspora of African influence throughout the world and the world’s ethnicities. We are seeking to accentuate the positive aspects of Afro-centric culture.
