McKinney Falls is not that far from Round Rock, making it the perfect little escape for a few hours (or days if you decide to camp). If you’re coming from farther away, this is the perfect spot to explore if you’re staying somewhere in Austin. It’s close enough to the city for easy access, but feels like it’s worlds away!

Upper Falls

Things to do

This park has it all: hiking trails, biking paths, camping, swimming, floating, fishing, and more. You will also spot plenty of wild life at this park. There is something to do year-round at this park. Swimming/floating to refresh you during the hot summer months. Hiking/biking would be fun in the winter. Camping would be the most pleasant in the spring and fall.

Swimming at Lower Falls

Why we love it here

Each section of the park feels like a different place entirely. There’s a beach-like section at the lower falls. The hikes near the lower falls look completely different than all the other trails. There’s a big debate over which is more fun for kids: the upper falls or lower falls! You’ll have to go to decide (and report back). Sometimes it feels like you’re walking over craters on the moon, and other times you think you’re lost deep in a swampy river in the South.
