Connecting Round Rock: Moms Who Mean Business – Guenthner

Connecting Round Rock explores what makes Round Rock great!

As we continue to connect with our community’s incredible people and organizations, we’re eager to learn more about what makes Round Rock such a vibrant place. That’s why we’re reviving our ‘5 Questions With…‘ series as segments with a fresh twist.

Each time, we’ll feature something or someone who contributes to making our community great—businesses, organizations, and people we think you would like to know!

Since we are kicking off in May, starting with the Moms Who Mean Business series segment is a natural choice. And what better way to start than on Mother’s Day, a day that celebrates the strength and resilience of mothers? Join us and be inspired by the stories of these driven women who build, lead, activate, and support Round Rock (and beyond)!

Moms Who Mean Business - Nancy

Meet Nancy Guenthner

Tell us about your family.
I have three kids, Nicholas, Grace, and Emily, and my husband, Chris. Emily is 8 years old and working on becoming the most flexible girl. She loves gymnastics and dogs. Grace is 11 years old and our entrepreneur. Her vision is to open the first vegan donut shop in Round Rock. She’s twice participated in the Children’s Business Fair and sold out both times! She also has a huge heart for animals. Nicholas is 14 years old and is incredible with anything related to technology. Most of the time, I have no idea what he is talking about when he gets going on that subject! Nicholas entered our lives by adoption 7 years ago to make our family complete. Chris is not just my life partner but my business partner, too! He is the Practice Manager for our business, Aspire Vision Care. We’ve been married for 20 years, and I couldn’t imagine doing life with anyone else.

What would be your ideal way to spend Mother’s Day?
Spending time outside with my family and enjoying a great meal at one of our favorite local restaurants. And a day without having to do laundry!

The Guenthers

Tell us about your business
My business is Aspire Vision Care. Every day, we work hard to improve lives through innovative vision care. Chris and I started Aspire Vision Care from the ground up in 2010 with just us and two employees. In 2021, we expanded to our current 5400-square-foot beautiful building and had 16 employees, including two other optometrists.

What’s your favorite part about your business?
My favorite part of what I do daily at my clinic is seeing the life changes that happen with proper vision care. My passion is working with children, specifically those who struggle with vision-related learning problems. It is very fulfilling to see the immediate impact of the treatments we provide on these kids’ and family lives. I also love it when I see patients year after year and hear stories of what they’ve accomplished and the goals they’ve reached.

What is one challenge with your business?
The most challenging part of our business is finding the right team members to help support our mission. We do not require a degree or previous experience to work in our clinic, but we do require people to work hard, be reliable, have a passion for helping people, and have fun!

How does your business give back to the community?
Before getting busy with kids, I was the Foundation Chair of the Round Rock Rotary Club and a graduate of Leadership Round Rock. Our business has participated in a food drive for the Round Rock Area Serving Center and has supported various youth activities in the area over the last 14 years.

How can Round Rock (and the surrounding areas) support your business?
If you or you know someone looking for quality eye care and vision care products, please visit your local optometrist. We are small businesses competing against some really big names out there! When you support small businesses in your community, you are making your community stronger. I truly believe small businesses are the backbone of our city.
