Here is a testimonial from Austin Medi-Weightloss client, Layne Smith:
“My weight has always fluctuated, and I have tried every program known to humans. I was heavy for the past 6 years – SUPER heavy and at my highest weight from the end of 2019 to 2021. During that time, I dealt with the death of my goddaughter, my son graduating high school, going off to Basic Training, and then starting college. I wasn’t happy with my position at work and then I twisted my ankle on the job. Everything seemed to be piling up. I attended a girl’s beach trip in August of 2021. When I saw the photos, I was sooo embarrassed of the way I looked. I had to do something. I will be 50 in Sept. I wanted to be FIT and 50 – Not fat and 50 (my motto). A friend told me about Medi-Weightloss. My first appointment was on 9/15/21. I signed up that day and I haven’t looked back!! I have only eaten 3 meals off plan – Christmas Eve/Day and New Year’s Eve. My husband had a mini-stroke the day before Thanksgiving, so “we” were in the hospital for that holiday. I have been in ketosis EVERY single office visit. This has been the best program I have ever tried and completed – IT WORKS!! The ladies at my clinic are amazing! They are such a vital part of my support team. Every time I shed 10lbs, they played “Celebration” and we danced it out!! Today, I reached my goal! I shed 80 pounds – dropped 8/9 pant sizes (I’m a size 4!!!) – after I hit size 20, I refused to wear jeans – I went to leggings. My cholesterol dropped over 30 points. My BMI went from 36.9 to 23.2; I went from obese to HEALTHY in 6 months!!! I feel fantastic and I am full of energy. Thank you for giving me my life back. I will face 50 head-on and with excitement! I am no longer the one taking the picture or hiding behind someone in the pictures – I am front and center. I have referred 4 friends to Medi-Weightloss – I will be cheering them on and sharing my tips – I know they can do it with this amazing program!!”
How important is weight loss to our everyday lives?
“Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is extremely important when it comes to everyone’s overall wellness but even more so for individuals with baseline health issues,” states Cassandra Stelogeannis LDN, CDM, CFPP, Medi-Weightloss Corporate Dietitian. “In general, achieving a healthy weight is essential in improving our overall health, self-esteem, and quality of life. According to the CDC, in 2019, the #1 cause of death in the US is cardiovascular disease. Cancer was #2, Diabetes was #7 and Liver disease was #8. To put this in perspective, this accounts for over 1 million deaths in 2019 alone that are potentially obesity-related complications. Currently, 73% of adults in America are overweight with 41% being obese. As a result, not only does obesity negatively impact their health outcomes, but this population can also battle with self-esteem issues and depression which further diminishes their overall wellness and quality of life.”
With people being so busy today, why should they act now rather than wait to take care of their weight loss plans?
“When it comes to carrying excess body weight, every day that goes by can compound obesity related health risks and chronic disease development such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, fatty liver disease, infertility issues, arthritis, sleep apnea, and even certain cancers. The sense of urgency to lose weight now varies for each individual depending on how dire their current health consequences may be. Behavior change is essential in losing weight and more so in maintaining it. However, behavior changes can be very
challenging for people as we are constantly tempted by family, friends, employees, and advertisements. Most people faced with change are ambivalent, even if this change is something they really want, or even have longed for. The Health Belief Model was developed to explain why people that are high-risk often fail to participate in programs designed to detect or prevent disease. A person must perceive the severity
and their susceptibility to the threat (such as a heart attack) for the threat to be a behavior motivating factor yet, what they don’t realize is that every day that goes by could mean that some of the damage has become irreversible. Regardless of the patient’s current status, the best time to take action in achieving a healthy weight is now rather than waiting for the signs and symptoms to appear while their obesity related complications continue to wreak havoc on their bodies.”
Stelogeannis adds, “Assessing the importance of change is essential in identifying the most important reasons for wanting to lose weight for that person. Using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, Medi-Weightloss providers try to help patients resolve ambivalence and focus on identifying behaviors and thoughts that have a negative impact on their desired goals and assist patients in applying strategies to
change now.”
