Who We Are

Georgetown Free Bikes was created to help make Georgetown, Texas nicer. We do that by giving away bicycles.

Bicycles provide recreation, freedom to explore, allow for exercise, and provide a means to get from home to work. Most importantly, bicycles build social networks and a sense of community among residents.

The Opportunity

We have a workshop every Tuesday to work on bikes. No prior experience needed!

We have several volunteers who pick up donations, assist clients in selecting a bike, refurbish bikes and manage the organization. We use some of our donations to purchase lunch for these hard-working volunteers during our mid-afternoon break. We need help fixing bikes, cleaning up bikes, managing social media, pick-up, delivery, fundraising, marketing and corporate support. Come help us. The feeling of making someone’s life nicer is very rewarding. You will be richly rewarded by seeing the smiles we create.

Looking for a volunteer opportunity for your youth group or other community organization? Please get in touch with us — we’d love to partner with you to repair and distribute bikes.

A few hours of your time on Tuesdays of each week makes a huge difference in our ability to deliver bicycles to our residents.

What We Do

Our mission at Georgetown Free Bikes is to make Georgetown, Texas nicer. We do that by providing bicycles to people for recreation and transportation.

Bicycles provide freedom, an outlet for exercise and healthy lifestyles, the ability to get to work or school, explore the outdoors, and build friendships and community with others. In order to accomplish this objective, Georgetown Free Bikes accepts donation bicycles of all types and sizes, analyzes which bicycles are good candidates for distribution, then refurbishes these to give away.

Our team of dedicated volunteers work hard to meet the needs of our local community by providing bicycles to those who simply ask for one. We have chosen not to require a referral or any financial information. Instead, we rely on karma and ask that people to give a donation if possible. We analyze the rider and their needs, provide a recommendation, and let the recipient choose from our inventory. If the bicycle is already refurbished, they can take it home immediately. If not, the bicycle then goes into a work queue where it is refurbished to working order and then given to the recipient.
