Martin Luther King Commemorative Walk & Celebration
Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Round Rock’s 26th Annual MLK Commemorative Walk & Celebration from 1 to 3:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.
The Black History Organization, the Round Rock Independent School District and the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department is presenting the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday celebration.
The commemorative walk begins at CD Fulkes Middle School at 300 West Anderson Avenue. Parade participants and marchers, led by a drumline or marching band from Round Rock ISD, will assemble at 1 p.m., and begin the march promptly at 1:30 p.m. The march will last approximately 15 minutes and will end at the Baca Center.
The march will also include a drive for food donations for the Round Rock Serving Center. Please bring food to donate.
The Celebration begins at 2 pm at the Baca Center. The program will include performances by students from the CD Fulkes Middle School Choir and local artists Tyler McLaughlin and Michael Stevens.
Dr. Dwight Watson, History Professor, at Texas State University in San Marcos will be the Guest Speaker. He will speak about the history of the civil rights movement.
A reception will follow immediately after the program at approximately 3:15 p.m.
The public is invited to participate by attending the walk, bringing non-perishable food for donation, bringing banners, and attending the program.
