Round Rock Arts invites the public to an important event for individuals, family members, professionals, artists and anyone interested in learning more about art and autism. Free and open to the public, AUTISM CREATES is comprised of a lecture presentation and art exhibit reception on Saturday, July 9, 2016 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at Texas State University Round Rock Campus, Ground Floor – Teaching Theater.

Lecture and exhibit reception will take place at Texas State University Round Rock Campus, Ground Floor – Teaching Theater, 1555 University Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665
For the lecture panel, we are bringing together a trio of speakers with varied experience, research and observations: Dr. Laurence A. Becker, PhD; Kiera Hoogendam, Artist; and Darcy Schiller, Education Specialist in Autism. Note for professionals: We do not have CEU’s available for this lecture program.
Following the specialists’ presentations, we invite the public to join us for the AUTISM CREATES art exhibit reception, which is also free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Panelist Bios
Dr. Laurence A. Becker, PhD – As an autism advocate with some 40 years of experience, Dr. Becker is the author of numerous publications and an award-winning documentary (With Eyes Wide Open, featuring artist Richard Wawro). He has curated art exhibitions for over two decades and received his PhD in Creative Learning Environments from the Union Institute and University.
Kiera Hoogendam, Artist – Sharing the podium with education and research specialists is this Texas artist. After graduation from Westwood High (Round Rock ISD), she enrolled in University of Texas at Dallas, where she is currently earning her Bachelors in Neuroscience.
Darcy Schiller, Education Specialist–Darcy is an Education Specialist in the area of Autism at Education Service Center, Region 13, in Austin. Her experience in the classroom is derived from teaching both youth and higher education coursework. She holds a Bachelor’s in Special Education and a Master of Science in Psychology.
