Round Rock Express Announces Baseball at Dell Diamond this Summer
In a press conference this afternoon, the Round Rock Express announced that baseball will happen this summer at the Dell Diamond. It’s just not with the Express – but with college players!
The Round Rock Express will be forming a collegiate team of players – the Round Rock Hairy Men – and playing games in the Texas Collegiate League. The Round Rock Express has been awarded a temporary position along with San Antonio, El Paso, and Frisco.
They will play 30 games, including 15 home games at Dell Diamond from June 30 – August 2. The home opener will be Tuesday, July 7, 2020.
The roster will be a 35 man roster made up of collegiate players and they will be looking locally to make up the team. They plan to have local players that grew up playing baseball here in Central Texas.
“The Round Rock Express and Minor League Baseball continue to wait for clarification from Major League Baseball about the 2020 Major League Baseball Season. We don’t know when & if there will be a minor league season. So we are at a point in our business where we need to look forward into other options.”
– Chris Almendarez, Round Rock Express President
It was mentioned that if minor league baseball does have a season, they will work with the schedule to allow both to play at Dell Diamond.
The Round Rock Express plans to treat all of the games as if they were normal Express games – so plan on attending for a fun night of baseball!
