City of Round Rock Proposes Fixed Route Bus Service and Seeks Community Feedback | Summer 2017
The City of Round Rock’s mobility and connectivity strategic initiative seeks to provide residents, visitors and employees with alternative choices for transportation, including public transportation. As the population and employment in Round Rock increase in size, the City continues to evaluate public transportation options.
Proposed Fixed-Route Bus Service
The City anticipates launching fixed route bus service Summer 2017 and is currently seeking feedback on routes, fares and ADA Paratransit Service Plan associated with the proposed addition of enhanced public transit to Round Rock’s transportation network. More information, including details on proposed routes and fares can be found below. Members of the community can provide comments in person at one of two open houses or via online form.
Specific times for each bus stop will be released before the service starts. At this point in time, the schedule is as follows:
- Fares Update: If you connect to Capital Metro the fare you paid in Round Rock will be honored. If you pay a Capital Metro fare it will be honored in Round Rock. For example, you buy a Round Rock commuter 31 day pass, it is also valid on Capital Metro’s system.
- Route 50 and Route 51 will operate Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Route 52 will operate Monday – Friday with the following schedule: [Tech Ridge Departures] 6:15 a.m., 7:15 a.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. [Round Rock Transit Center Departures] 6:45 a.m., 7:45 a.m., 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.
- Route 980 will operate Monday – Friday, to/from the Round Rock Transit Center at 300 W. Bagdad, with morning departures at 5:44 and 6:46 a.m. and afternoon arrivals at 5:07 and 6:12 p.m.. Route 980 will use the Mopac managed lanes to decrease travel time into the downtown Austin area. If you need to get back to Round Rock anytime during the day, you can catch Route 50 at the MetroRail Howard Station.

Demand Response Bus Service
The City provides Demand Response Bus Service to the citizens of Round Rock. Demand Response Bus Service is a reservation based public transportation option. The Service provides public transportation from any origin to any destination within the city limits and extraterritorial jurisdiction.
Project Connect
Project Connect: North Corridor is studying alternatives for improving transportation within and between central and north Austin and the cities of Pflugerville, Round Rock, Georgetown, Hutto and others. Options to be considered include both roadway and transit projects.
Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program
The Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program encourages small for-profit businesses, which are owned by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, to participate in government contracts partially funded by U.S. Department of Transportation funds.
Title VI Program
The City of Round Rock is a recipient of Federal funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation and is required to establish a Title VI Program, which prohibits discrimination against any person in the United States on the basis of race, color, or national origin.

Transit Master Plan
The Transit Master Plan was developed in 2015 to provide a blueprint for improving local mobility and regional connectivity over the next 10 years. Round Rock’s population grew by over 44 percent in the last decade and the number of residents and jobs continues to grow. New retail centers, residential developments and educational facilities are changing how people travel within the community
