Grey Orchard Opens in Round Rock — Modern American Dining Lands on I-35
There’s a new name to know along the I-35 dining strip. Grey Orchard, an upscale modern American restaurant, soft-opened July 9 in the old Denny’s spot at 2700 N I-35. As a result, Round Rock’s stretch of chains and fast-casual staples just got a serious upgrade.
Grey Orchard comes from owner James Sun and chef partner Cole Fitzgerald. The pair is also behind Austin’s Fig Italian Kitchen & Bar. In fact, Fig was a 2025 CultureMap Tastemaker Award nominee for Best New Restaurant.
Fitzgerald arrived in Austin with Michelin Guide credentials from Atlanta’s the White Bull. Meanwhile, Sun’s résumé includes a stint at Eleven Madison Park in New York. He also opened Austin spots Cedro Scratch Italian & Bar and Mia Italian Tapas & Bar. In short, this isn’t a first-timer’s menu.
The concept is seasonal American food “shaped by subtle Asian influence.” The menu backs that up: think a wild mushroom salad and a double smash burger. There’s also tempura bang bang shrimp, duck bánh mì, and basil fried rice. Overall, expect the kind of artful plating that made Fig a local favorite
Inside, the space leans warm and neutral, with an organic layout of bench seating, tables for two, a prominent bar, and a semi-private room for small groups (larger group bookings are available too).
