The Board approved O’Connell Robertson as the architecture firm in April to design and plan the school, which will be located on Pearson Ranch Road near Elsa England Elementary School and Pearson Ranch Middle School, scheduled to open August 2017.  It selected Bartlett-Cooke General Contractors as the project’s construction manager for $75,000.  The architecture costs were $11 million, paid for with Bond 2008 surplus.

The Board could approve the construction of the high school to appear on a bond referendum in May 2017, putting the project in voters’ hands to help relieve overcrowding at its existing high schools, including Round Rock High School, and to alleviate the need for a seventh high school.

A team from O’Connell Robertson and a stakeholder group including teachers, parents, and administrators have been designing the school over the past several months.

“Our Strategic Plan, which is the community’s vision for Round Rock ISD, called for meeting the needs of growth,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Growth is good because it means we can offer opportunities to students, including high quality, neighborhood schools to compliment our Public Schools of Choice.”

The District selected the Pearson Ranch Road location because it was property it purchased for a high school site, it best matched the future growth projections of the District, and it was the most cost-efficient choice.

The Board needs to call for a Bond election no later than February 17 in order to appear on the May 6 ballot. The District plans to form a Citizens’ Bond Committee in September and October to begin evaluating the needs of its schools and communities.
