CANCELATION of Round Rock Chalk Walk Arts Festival

The City of Round Rock has canceled the 2020 Chalk Walk and Arts Festival scheduled for October at Dell Diamond due to public health concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.

“The current and projected spread of COVID-19 is too great to risk the health of festival attendees and workers,” said Scot Wilkinson, Director of Arts and Culture.

Chalk Walk is the Round Rock area’s largest art festival, attracting more than tens of thousands of people annually to this free event, which is held on the first weekend of October.

Chalk Walk is a celebration of the arts, with visual artists creating beautiful sidewalk murals. Strolling the “chalk walk” affords visitors the opportunity to meet and talk with the artists who create these temporary pavement masterpieces. Beyond visual arts, the festival is also host to many vendors, sponsors, local and regional musicians, theatrical performances, foods and drinks, and local children’s performances from a variety of local organizations.

Originally conceived by nonprofit organization Round Rock Arts, Chalk Walk was established in 2009 and has grown rapidly since inception. Needing more space for artists and visitors, the festival moved from Downtown Round Rock to Dell Diamond in 2019 and is now hosted by the City of Round Rock.

With more than 60,000 attendees, the event has an estimated economic impact of more than $1.8 million annually.

The date for next year’s festival will be October 1-2, 2021.

“We look forward to our second year at the beautiful Dell Diamond, where the parking lot and stadium will be filled with art, music, food, festivities and the spirit of the Lone Star State,” Wilkinson said.
