For those celebrating with fireworks in permitted areas, the Fire Marshal’s Office offers several safety tips:

  • Supervision: Always have adult supervision; do not allow children to purchase or ignite fireworks.
  • Purchase: Buy only from reliable sellers.
  • Preparation: Read all labels and performance descriptions before use; have water handy in case of fire.
  • Usage: Ignite fireworks outdoors on a flat surface away from structures, dry leaves, or grass; light one at a time and never re-light malfunctioning fireworks.
  • Disposal: Wet down spent fireworks and place them in a metal trash can away from buildings or combustible materials.

Additionally, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter advises pet owners to keep pets indoors during fireworks displays, provide background noise like music or television, and create a safe space for them to retreat if they become anxious.
