Connecting Round Rock: Champions for Seniors – Allen R. Baca Center, R Rock Parks and Recreation Department

Describe your mission and the work that focuses on seniors.
The Allen R. Baca Center, a premier facility within the City of Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department, provides a wide range of programming designed to meet the needs of Round Rock’s active 50+ population. Programs focus on physical activity, social engagement, education, arts, creativity, and healthy lifestyles. These programs are designed to serve adults of all abilities – those who are physically active, those who are just becoming active, and programs for those who have age-related limitations.

Many of our members boast about making meaningful social connections, losing weight, increasing flexibility and balance, and traveling to regional destinations.

Conveniently located in downtown Round Rock, the Allen R. Baca Center has been serving the community since 2005. The Center has a weight room, billiards room, aerobics/dance room, meeting rooms, patio and much more.

What is your favorite part about the work your organization does?
Our favorite part is giving older adults a place to connect and socialize with other adults who are in similar life stages. The connections made through the Baca Center are like finding a second family.

What is one challenge your organization faces?
One challenge we face is meeting the diverse needs and interests of multiple generations in a single space. We aim to create an environment where activities like pickleball and group exercise classes are just as valued as bingo and card games, ensuring everyone can find something they enjoy.

How is your organization preparing for Fall/Winter?
The Baca Center has a variety of events planned for the upcoming Fall/Winter, including a Halloween Costume Dance on October 25 and a Veterans Breakfast on November 7. During the month of November, a Veterans Wall of Honor will be on display in the Center’s lobby. Complete details, registration information, and additional events can be found in the latest Baca Center newsletter, available at www.BacaCenter.com.

How can Round Rock (and the surrounding areas) support your organization?
A fantastic way to offer support is by spreading the word about the Baca Center. With low membership fees and numerous activities, we offer something for almost everyone ages 50+.

Anything else you would like to share?
The Allen R. Baca Center has over 1600 active members who participate in over 50 weekly activities. Membership is open to anyone ages 50+ and is not restricted to Round Rock residents—anyone can join! Daily congregate meals are also served at the Baca Center through a partnership with the Opportunities for Williamson & Burnet Counties (OWBC) Senior Nutrition Program.
