New exhibit in the Downtowner Gallery is locally sourced, fresh, and delicious!
We’re celebrating culinary and horticultural arts in the Downtowner Gallery with an exhibit featuring local and area artists. 2D and 3D artwork in this exhibit reveal how artists are thinking about, growing, making and of course, eating food.
Among the things our local artists are thinking about when it comes to food: how flavors can conjure up childhood memories, how important pollinators are for the ecosystem, the joy of street food, the beauty of fresh ingredients, and the relationship between culture and food.
You’ve heard the statement “know your farmer, know your food,” and the same could be said about artists and art. Your purchases of locally produced artwork stay within the community and support artist-owned small businesses.
During this exhibition, the Downtowner Gallery will also be host to the Seed Library, on loan from the Round Rock Public Library. Visitors can plan their gardens for the upcoming season with open-pollinated and heirloom seeds from a card catalog display of seeds. Seed donations are also welcome, when accompanied by a donation form. Seed Library info: www.roundrocktexas.gov/city-departments/library-home/books-services/seed-library
About our guest juror
We thank our guest juror, Valérie Chaussonnet, for selecting the artworks in this exhibit from the open call for applicants. Valérie is a visual artist, known for her works in steel, watercolor, abstract, and narrative — plus her whimsical French patisserie yarn art. She also operates La Petite Provence Austin French and Art School, hosting French Over Dinner immersion language classes.
