Penfold Theatre Company presents The Last Five Years at Trinity Street Theater from March 19th – April 12th, 2015.

The Last Five Years tells the emotionally powerful story of Jamie and Cathy, two 20-something New Yorkers who dive head first into a marriage fueled by the optimism that comes with finding “the one.” But in a city where professional and personal passions collide and only the strongest relationships survive, navigating the waters of love and matrimony can sometimes prove too much. Funny, honest, and intimate, with an exuberantly romantic score, the Drama Desk Award-winning story explores the delicacy of love in a unique structure: Cathy tells her story from end to beginning while Jamie tells his from beginning to end.

Penfold originally mounted The Last Five Years in 2009, when it won the Austin Critics Table Award for Best Musical. The Austin American-Statesman called it “flawless,” and later commented, “forgive me for gushing, but this is the sort of production that audiences are lucky to see: unique, intimate, beautiful, painful and wonderful.” Director Michael McKelvey now returns for the revival, as does David Gallagher in the role of Jamie. This time, the role of Cathy is portrayed by the luminous Sara Burke, who was most recently seen on stage at Zach Theater in A Rockin’ Christmas Carol and Peter and the Starcatcher.

The Last Five Years was a smash Off-Broadway hit when it debuted in 2002, after which it captivated theatre-lovers around the country as a staple of regional theater. This year, Tony-winning composer Jason Robert Brown brought this unconventional love story to a whole new audience through its release as a major motion picture starring Anna Kendrick and Jeremy Jordan.
