I never in a million years thought that I would want to give my 7 year-old German Shepherd, Jake, a blueberry facial,  but after learning all about them at Woof Gang Bakery and Grooming, I can’t wait to make him an appointment. Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming opened in June of 2020 (yes, in the middle of the pandemic!), and very quickly became the place in Round Rock to get adorable gourmet treats & toys for your fur baby.   Made locally or in-house with healthy ingredients like bananas, peanut butter, or molasses, Woof Gang’s treats, cookies, and cakes are very popular. They just recently started taking custom cake orders – I know where we are getting Jake’s birthday cake from!

Woofgang Bakery: The Why

Owner Bindi Bhakta has a strong desire to help the community with their dogs.  A second-grade teacher for several years, Bindi, has a maltipoo, Jackson, whom she quickly became attached to.  She learned how to train him, baked for him, and did loads of research on what was healthy for dogs.  She wanted to share her love of dogs and people and thus opened her mom & pop ‘dog boutique.’

Bindi jokingly tells us that “Dogs are welcome, people are tolerated.”, but seeing her with the animals, you can see where her heart is.  As I was speaking with her, a customer came in to pick up their dog from grooming and Bindi knelt down to the dog’s level to love on him while speaking with the customers.

Woofgang Bakery: The What

Woof Gang carries as many locally produced goods as they can, including gourmet food lines, dog grooming supplies, and toys. The food that they do carry is wholesome – high in protein and fat.

In the middle of the shop is the “Farmer’s Market”.  Purposely close to the ground for the true customers (a.k.a. the dogs), to sniff and pick what they want to take home.  It is filled with a variety of tastes and textures and smells – different types of bones and chews that will last longer than a treat. Your dog can choose from chicken feet, elk antlers, honey-coated bones, and soft chews to help for teeth brushing.

One of the biggest issues Woof Gang can help with is aggressive chewing. “I get asked all the time, ‘how can I keep my dog busy?’ So I really try to keep a variety of toys that can keep them busy versus tearing apart.” Bindi tells us.  There is a whole wall of toys to choose from – stuffed animals, squeakers, and rope toys.

And in the back, they have a full-service grooming spa for all size dogs.  They provide hair cuts, mini grooms, as well as luxurious bath packages. They also offer “pawdicures” and teeth cleaning. And their most popular service is the Blueberry facial.  But that’s not all, they offer seasonal facials such as Pomegranate and Fig during the summer and Apple Harvest in the fall.

Bindi and her husband chose to open Woof Gang in Round Rock, because they loved the hometown spirit it offers.  “What drew us to Round Rock was that small town feel but it’s really not a small town!” Bindi tells us. They recently built a home here and had their first child, and they are excited to call Round Rock home.

‘We probably have the best customers.  And that’s the dogs who bring their humans in!”  Bindi shines when she speaks of her customers and how much fun her new career has been for her.  I know personally, every time I go in, I walk out with tips and ideas to try at home with Jake.

She credits her team of groomers and retail staff who help make the experience at Woof Gang so great. “Amy and Mickey have been grooming for a VERY long time. They are so talented. In fact, they don’t call their dogs “clients or dogs”.. they call them canvases!”

Bindi invites everyone to visit with the dogs to see how they can help you with your beloved fur baby.   “Dogs are family.  They are always going to be. And we want to help the community with their loved ones.”

And about that blueberry facial for Jake……do you think owners can get one too?
