Meet the Camp! DC Riding
Describe your mission and work focused on local campers.
At DC Riding, the goal is to teach excellent horsemanship in a safe, supportive, and fun environment for riders ages 7–14. Serving families across the Greater Austin area, including Round Rock, the program gives campers a unique opportunity to connect with horses while building confidence, responsibility, and trust.
Through a combination of hands-on horsemanship, mounted lessons, and groundwork, campers learn to care for and communicate with their horses in meaningful ways. Each day blends skill-building with classic camp fun, creating an experience that is both structured and engaging.
At its core, DC Riding is about more than learning to ride—it’s about helping every camper grow, feel supported, and leave knowing that someone believes in them.
What is your favorite part of the work your organization does?
One of the most rewarding parts of DC Riding is watching the relationship between each camper and their horse grow over time.
As confidence builds and trust develops, campers begin to form a true connection—one that often becomes the highlight of their entire camp experience.
What is one challenge your organization faces?
As the program continues to grow, one of the biggest challenges is reaching more families who may not yet know about DC Riding. Sharing the experience and helping new campers discover the program is an ongoing focus.
How is your organization preparing to kick off the summer season?
The DC Riding team is preparing for a strong summer by developing engaging lesson plans for both mounted and ground instruction, training staff, and getting the horses ready for a full season of activity.
This year’s Opening Week is especially exciting, as it will take place at a new campus and run alongside the broader Camp Doublecreek summer program—offering campers a dynamic and memorable start to the season.
How can Round Rock (and the surrounding areas) support your organization?
Like many local programs, DC Riding grows through word-of-mouth and community support. Families who share their experiences, invite friends, and help spread the word play a key role in introducing new campers to the program. Those interested are encouraged to grab a friend and register to experience it together.
DC Riding offers a unique camp experience where skill-building meets connection, giving campers the chance to grow both in and out of the saddle. Through hands-on learning, supportive coaching, and meaningful time with horses, campers build confidence, responsibility, and lasting memories. For many, it’s more than just a camp—it’s an experience that stays with them long after the summer ends.
