Palermo Pasta House | Downtown Round Rock
A new restaurant has opened in Downtown Round Rock and it’s fairly easy to say, it’s going to be a keeper. If you like fresh, homemade pasta, than you must try Palermo Pasta House on Main Street.
Palermo Pasta House is a family-oriented restaurant, pizzeria, and artisanal pasta factory.
The Menu of Palermo Pasta House
We were very impressed with the menu, offering both homemade pasta and stone-fired pizza. There was a great deal of variety to it as well, with a mix of white & red sauces. Their pasta is freshly made and you can tell – it was probably the lightest pasta noodles I have ever had. And their portions are huge! Take a look:
We started with the Sampler Platter. it was a huge array of cheese, salami, ham, prosciutto, olives and candied pecans. It would have made for a perfect meal with a few glasses of wine and girlfriends.
We tried a few things off of their specials menu for dinner – the lasagna bolognese and the tagliatelle in a gorgonzola cream sauce. The lasagna was several layers thick with lots of meat, red sauce and cheese. The surprising part about it was that it was light – completely unlike any lasagna we have ever tried. You know how you normally feel so full after a plate of lasagna? As full as we were, we never had that miserable, “I just had Italian” feeling.
The tagliatelle with Gorgonzola Sauce was surprisingly delightful. While I will eat gorgonzola on a salad, I’m not the biggest fan of it. I loved this dish, the noodles were square and the cream sauce had just a hint at the end of the gorgonzola, not overwhelming at all.
And have you ever seen a portion of chicken parmesan so big? The chicken had a think layer of ham that brought out amazing flavor. And complimented with a plate of pasta and red sauce, this meal was complete. All of us were amazed at again, how light the chicken parma was. And it was such a large portion, we were able to take it home and enjoy it for lunch the next day.
Palermo Pasta House served a few local beers on tap and had a nice wine menu.
The Atmosphere of Palermo Pasta House
Housed in a historic building in Downtown Round Rock, the Palermo Pasta House is quaint, with just one room for seating. There are quite a few tables, so it will seat a crowd. With the tall ceilings and concrete floor, it can get bait noisy, but we don’t mind that – it adds to the charm of being housed in a building that has seen many years of Round Rock history.
Though I did not see a children’s menu, I did see several families dining the evening we visited. As they are advertising to be a “family restaurant”, it is clear that children were welcome.
We really enjoyed out meal at Palermo Pasta House. I think it’s a winner. Great for both a date night or a night out with the family. Let’s get out and support this local restaurant so it stays!
