Top 5 Family-Friendly Activities Before School Starts
Here in Round Rock, school starts in one week! End your summer with a BANG with these top 5 family-friendly activities before school starts.
#1 Visit Micki Krebsbach Pool
Micki Krebsback Pool has a neat pirate ship for little kids and a fun slide and obstacle course for big kids. They are open from 1-7 p.m. every day except Tuesdays. Admission is $3 for kids and $4 for adults. 301 Deep Wood Dr, Round Rock.
#2 Bring treats to your local fire station
This is one of our family’s favorite activities. We all pitch in and make some sort of treat like cookies or brownies. The kids draw pictures on hand-made thank you cards. We deliver them to the fire station closest to our house. Some years, they let us take a tour of the station or at least sit on a truck, but because of Covid, that wasn’t possible this year. But they still very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and the kids love doing this act of kindness.
#3 Bowl at Uncle Buck’s Fish Bowl
Go under the sea while bowling at Uncle Buck’s inside Bass Pro Shops. We love all the fishy details to the aquatic-themed bowling alley. There’s also an arcade now where the restaurant used to be! 200 Bass Pro Dr, Round Rock.
#4 Go out for ice cream
One of my friends took her kids to a new-to-them ice cream place every week this summer, which I thought was the coolest idea ever! We have so many choices for sweet and cold treats here in Round Rock, from homemade ice cream floats to rolled ice cream and everything in between. Check out these FUN ice cream places to take the kids for one last hurrah before school starts.
#5 Take the kids to an arcade
We started this tradition years ago and now the kids actually look forward to school starting, because it means arcade day is coming up! Every year we take the kids to Pinballz on the day before school starts, but this year we might just go to Tom Foolery’s inside Kalahari instead. It’s enormous and they had so much fun when we went at the start of summer. There’s also an escape room (make reservations ahead of time), indoor rides, a bowling alley, laser tag, and a ropes course. I think this is a perfect way to usher summer out with a BANG and welcome the new school year. Don’t forget to bring closed-toe shoes for the kids if they want to do the ropes course! 3001 Kalahari Blvd, Round Rock.
Bonus: See a Round Rock Express Game
The Round Rock Express returns home for a six game stretch the week school starts, starting on August 19, 2021. Check out a Friday night game and stay for the fireworks or take the kids to a Sunday game for Kids Day. 3400 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock.
