Rock’N River Water Park: 10 Things to Know Before You Go (2026)
Rock’N River Water Park is one of Round Rock’s most loved summer traditions — city-owned, family-friendly, and right inside Old Settlers Park. And for 2026, it just got a whole lot bigger.
The park nearly doubled in size this year with the addition of a brand-new Action River, making this the most significant expansion in the park’s history. If you haven’t been in a few years, things have changed. Here’s everything you need to know before you go.

2. NEW for 2026: The Action River
The biggest change this year is the Action River — a 775-foot lazy river with two wave features: a typhoon wave generator and a barrel roll wave generator. It’s part of the Phase 3 expansion that also added private cabanas with a 2,000 sq ft private pool, additional shade structures, and more parking. The expansion increased the park’s capacity from 1,601 to 2,401 guests.
Everyone under 48″ is required to wear a US Coast Guard approved life jacket on the Action River. Life jackets are available on-site at no cost. Do not bring your own floats — they are not permitted.

3. Know the Height Requirements
Rock’N River uses a wristband color system based on height. Get wristbands when you first arrive so you know exactly what your kids can ride.
- Splashville Slides (Yellow Sidewinder, Orange Outlaw, Blue Blaze): 40″ minimum, one rider at a time
- Lookout Slides: 48″ minimum, one rider at a time
- The Quarry (rock wall, dive platform, drop slide): 48″ minimum — plus anyone under 16 must pass a swim test
- Action River: Life jacket required for anyone under 48″
Head to the Quarry for the swim test as soon as you arrive — it’s two unassisted short laps and lifeguards administer it for free.
4. What to Wear
Proper swimwear is required — think swim trunks, one-piece, or two-piece suits. You can wear athletic shorts or a t-shirt over your swimsuit. Swim diapers are required for little ones who need them.
Not allowed: Thong bikinis, swimwear with exposed zippers, buckles, rivets, or metal ornamentation.
Water shoes are not allowed in the water.
5. What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind)
Bring:
- Cooler with snacks, drinks, and lunch — outside food is welcome
- Sunscreen (apply before you go, not just when you get there)
- Cash for concessions and snow cones
- Towels and a change of clothes
Leave at home or in the car:
- Glass containers — not allowed
- Alcohol — not allowed
- Personal floats and water wings — not allowed (life jackets are provided free on-site)
- Bags and coolers may be searched at entry
6. Timing Is Everything
The 1–3 pm window is peak busy time. Two better options:
- Arrive right at opening — you’ll walk straight in and have first pick of shaded spots
- Come for twilight — the last 2 hours of the day are half price and significantly less crowded
Shaded seating fills up fast. Position yourself near wherever your kids will spend most of their time — there are large umbrellas near the sprayground area and shaded spots throughout the expanded park.
7. The Sprayground Is Still a Standout
The sprayground features 51 play features including down jets, hose jets, a tipping cone, water curtain, water guns, net obstacles, and water slides. It’s the best spot for younger kids who aren’t ready for the bigger attractions.
8. Lifeguards Are Everywhere — But You Still Need to Watch Your Kids
Rock’N River has excellent lifeguard coverage throughout the park. They are constantly scanning and actively managing the water. That said — when it gets busy, help them out. Know where your kids are, especially in the Quarry and on the slides.
Children 12 and under must be actively supervised by a responsible adult. Children 6 and under must be within arm’s reach of a parent or guardian at all times.
9. Rent a Shaded Spot
If you want a guaranteed shaded base for your group, rental options are available — including cabanas, umbrellas, and pergolas. Rentals book up, so plan ahead. Check roundrocktexas.gov/river for current rental options and pricing.
10. Check the Schedule Before You Go
Rock’N River does not follow a simple “open every day” schedule. Hours and operating days vary by week throughout the season, and the park closes for some holidays and weather events.
Always check the current schedule at roundrocktexas.gov/river before heading out — especially if you’re making a special trip.
