What is your organization’s mission for the work you do in Round Rock?
We are organized and operated for educational and charitable purposes to stimulate interest in art in Williamson County, Texas, and beyond. WCAG sponsors numerous art exhibits and activities around the county.
When we bring local art to local communities, it transforms ordinary environments, boosts local economies by attracting visitors, and supports local talent.
And art projects bring people together, fostering interaction and providing a shared experience. There are also emotional benefits to viewing art, including reduced stress and increased inspiration. We enjoy providing platforms for local artists as it strengthens the local economy and preserves cultural heritage.
What is your favorite part of the work your team does in Round Rock?
As mentioned previously, each art exhibit or activity offers the benefits referenced. But these things are also enhancing the look and feel of Round Rock. It shows the commitment of the City of Round Rock to the arts and culture aspect of the community.
What is one challenge your organization faces?
As a non-profit organization, as is the case with many, we are constantly faced with the challenge of obtaining volunteers to help do all that needs to be done.
From board members to curators to administrators and so on, we could use the help. Our organization has grown tremendously over the last 3 years, and with that comes increased needs. It’s really a supply and demand relationship.
We have lots of ideas for things to do, and we receive lots of requests for exhibits/activities, but we have to ensure we have the people power to accomplish each new potential project.
Celebrating 50 Years
We are celebrating our 50-year anniversary as the Williamson County Art Guild in 2026. We are so happy to have sustained this organization through many ups and downs over the years, and look forward to two big events to celebrate.
The Peace, Love and Art Affair scheduled for 9/26, 6-9pm, is a fun throwback to the ’70’s, when we were first organized. The huge exhibit, The Legacy Show: WCAG Celebrates 50 Years, will take place in November and December of this year in Georgetown, showcasing the best works of countless art guild members.
Want to see the work in person? The Williamson County Art Guild Gallery is located at 708 Rock St. in Georgetown — featuring local art, classes, and rotating exhibits — and WCAG hosts shows and activities across Williamson County throughout the year.
