Once again, we’ve done it. The Austin-Round Rock area has been rated the #1 Best Performing City in the USA (Large Cities category). This designation comes from the Milken Institute in their study published on February 6, 2024.

Milken Institute – About Best-Performing Cities

The Best-Performing Cities (BPC) rankings offer an objective evaluation of the economic performance of US metropolitan areas based on 13 indicators that cover labor market conditions, high-tech impact, and access to economic opportunities. This year, two new metrics are incorporated into the index: community resilience and income inequality. BPC large cities include the 200 most populous US metropolitan areas. Large cities are further divided into five tiers based on their relative performance, with top-ranked cities in Tier 1 and bottom-ranked cities in Tier 5. The interactive figure below shows large cities’ rankings on the 13 components of the index. Download and read the full report here.
