Connecting Round Rock: Champions for Seniors – Provident Crossings
Describe your mission and the work that focuses on seniors.
At Provident Crossings, A Resort Lifestyle Community, our core values of honesty, kindness and compassion, respect and service excellence are more than words on the page. They are at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to create an enriching and supportive environment where seniors feel at home.
What is your favorite part about the work your organization does?
I love that we provide a supportive and social environment for our citizens who have often given so much to their families, careers and communities. Our entire staff feels it is a privilege to serve others, and we see that in everything they do.
What is one challenge your organization faces?
We fight perceptions, many people think that our older residents are helpless, needy and incapable of interacting with the younger generations. We know they are engaged in civic affairs, participants in physical and mental exercises as well as have SO MANY stories to share that can help us be better humans. The other perception is that living in a resort retirement community is the same as a nursing facility or assisted living community, which is not correct. Our residents have earned the ability to have a resort lifestyle and are living here by choice!
How is your organization preparing for Fall/Winter?
We love working with our area non profits to do service all year long, but at the holidays in particular, Share the Will Foundation is a partner that the residents support both financially and with project.
How can Round Rock (and the surrounding areas) support your organization?
Round Rock as a whole DOES support our organization and we love the relationships we have built.
Think of our very capable residents the next time there is a volunteer opportunity that can be done from their home. We have very large areas, locked storage areas, many tables and chairs, etc that facilitate projects. We recently made birthday kits for Round Rock Serving Center and the Partners in Education Foundation.
