5 Questions with Penfold Theatre Company
In an effort to get to know more about the people who make Round Rock such a great place to live, I am resurrecting a series I did years ago called “5 Questions With….” As I did in the past, I will be asking a few questions of interesting people of Round Rock – people who work hard behind the scenes, people who strive to make our city great, people who make fun events & places possible in our city, and just cool folks you need to know.
But I wanted to take it a step further and reach out to as many businesses owners in Round Rock as I can. I want to catch up with them to learn how their business is doing under these conditions. And see if & how we can help keep them in businesses. I think you will be happy to hear some of the unique ways that businesses have adapted to the changes or are making plans to offer new products and services once they do open.
While many businesses have had to close or change their business models, all entertainment have come to a complete stand still. So I think it is important to check in on some of our favorite theatre companies to see how they are doing. Here is how Penfold Theatre Company is still providing entertainment for the community:
What is Penfold Theatre?
Penfold Theatre Company is a non-profit, professional theatre company that produces shows in Williamson and Travis counties. We offer intimate stories that speak to our community’s unique character, nurture local professional theatre, promote empathy, and inspire hope.
What is the status of Penfold Theatre now?
We are working hard to keep connected to our community despite not being able to present our shows as we originally planned.
What do you miss most about your business?
I really miss the people – from the staff working in the office to all our patrons gathering for special events and performances. Part of the magic of theatre is what happens when a group of people – artists and audience – are in the room together. While having ways to digitally connect is definitely helping right now, there is nothing that compares to being physically together in the theatre.
What are you currently doing with Penfold Theatre?
During this unprecedented time, we wanted to offer a way to stay connected until we can once again gather in a physical theatre. We are very excited to present a new program, our Spring Screen Series. We release a new digital featurette every week showcasing past and upcoming productions. My favorite featurette to date is Backstage at “Vincent” with Director Beth Burns. It was fascinating to hear from the director of the show and get some insight into our upcoming production. You can find our Spring Screen Series at http://www.penfoldtheatre.org/spring-screen-series.
What has been a few of your favorite “at-home” activities during this time?
I have really loved catching up on my reading. I always have a big pile of books by my bed, and I am finally putting a dent into it!
Bonus – what’s the first thing you will do once the Stay-at-Home mandate is lifted?
I am so looking forward to the first day I can spend the entire afternoon out of the house. I want to visit a museum, go to as many art galleries as possible, and get tickets to concert or show.
